What's Poppin — Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 19, 2026

What's Poppin ("we," "us") helps you see which nearby venues are busy right now. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show ads.

Information we collect

Location. With your permission, we use your device's location — including in the background when you enable "Always" — to (1) show you venues that are busy near you and (2) contribute an anonymous "someone is here" density signal that helps everyone see how busy a place is in real time. You can use most of the app without granting location; granting it enables Near Me and live presence features.

Anonymous presence pings. When you're at or near a venue, the app may send an anonymous count toward that venue's live density. These pings are aggregated and are not tied to your identity.

Check-ins. If you tap to report a place as busier or chiller, we record that check-in to improve the live reading. If you've joined a friend "crew," your check-ins are shared with your mutual friends; in the aggregate they remain anonymous.

Crew / device identifier. If you use the friends feature, we store a device-generated identifier and the display name you choose, plus your mutual friend connections, so we can show your crew where they're out.

Push token. If you enable notifications, we store a push token so we can alert you when a saved venue gets busy or a friend checks in.

Anonymous usage analytics. We collect anonymous, aggregate in-app activity — such as app opens, screen views, which venues are viewed and for how long, and which buttons are tapped — to understand how the app is used, make it better, and power the anonymous "For you tonight" suggestions. This data is not linked to your identity, is never sold, and is not used for advertising or tracking.

AI-generated suggestions. To generate the "For you tonight" venue suggestions, an anonymous summary of a device's venue preferences (venue types and areas viewed — never your name, contact details, or a location history) is processed by our AI service provider (Anthropic). It is used solely to produce the suggestions and is not used to identify you or for advertising.

How we use information

To power the app's core features: live venue busyness, Near Me, friend crew, and notifications. Location and presence data are used to compute real-time density and are not used to build advertising profiles.

Sharing

We share data only as needed to run the service (e.g., our hosting and database provider). We do not sell personal data. Aggregated, de-identified busyness statistics may be shared or displayed.

Your choices

You can turn location permission on or off at any time in your device Settings, disable notifications, and leave the crew feature. Removing the app stops all collection. To request deletion of crew data tied to your device, contact us below.

Data retention

Live presence and check-in signals are short-lived and used for current busyness. Crew connections persist until you remove them or request deletion.

Children

What's Poppin is intended for adults of legal drinking/nightlife age and is not directed to children under 13.
